The most engaging life I've ever had

exciting, fun, a little intimidating, definitely worth it.

D-Day Week

June 6, D-day. We got up at 0430 hours and boarded our invasion transports. We were quite unprepared for the events of the week. My squad was assigned to land at brant beach at 0500 hours. We were able to sneak in under cover of darkness and drew very little attention as we disembarked. However, once we opened fire on a bunker to our north east, we were hit by an intense fire from the air. The fighting lasted for a week. Once I was completely surrounded by those dirty little shingles and almost ready to surrender when Sergeant Filson led an attack and broke through their lines to rescue me. By the end of every day we were covered in dirt and sweat from the battlefield. My squad fared better than most, but we had some pretty bad hits. Corporal Phillip took it the worst when a sniper came from out of the sun and took him down on Friday. We had to take him out of the fight. I got one pretty bad in my shoulders, but I was able to press on. Sergeant Filson however, deserted us sometime Thursday evening. Haven't seen or heard from him since. Captain Cutter brought Specialist Edwards in on Friday to help us blow past the last brick bunker and he did pretty well. The battle was hard but we are victorious! I hope I can get some sleep now.
